We install the roller shutter doors we manufacture, using our own teams. When installation is subcontracted, nobody owns the result, and on the coast the warranty conversation two years later is almost always about corrosion and about who specified what.
How a roller shutter door installation runs
- Site survey. We measure the opening, check headroom and side room, look at the structure the guides will fix to, and assess the exposure.
- Specification and quote. Door, coating, hardware grade, drive, safety devices and any structural work, priced as separate lines.
- Manufacture and coating. Built to the measured opening, coated to the specified system, assembled and cycled in the workshop.
- Installation. Guides plumbed, barrel levelled, curtain tracked, drive set and tested.
- Handover. Operation, manual release and maintenance explained to whoever will use it.
Fixings on a coastal building
This is where installations quietly fail here. A correctly specified door hung on ordinary anchors in a salt environment will loosen as the fixings corrode, and a loose guide is a curtain that comes out in a wind. We use stainless or properly coated fixings on coastal work as standard, and we check the substrate rather than assuming a wall is sound behind its plaster.
Heritage buildings and approvals
Parts of the City Bowl, Woodstock, Observatory and the older village centres sit in heritage areas where external alterations need approval. A shutter box bolted across a Victorian shopfront is both a poor look and a possible problem. We size the box inside the reveal, run guides tight to the existing frame, finish the door to the building, and provide the specification and drawings the approval process needs before anything is manufactured.
Installing on port, cold store and harbour buildings
Those openings need a door that survives salt and impact at the same time, and a cold store opening also has a sealing requirement. We plan changeovers so the store is not open longer than it has to be, and we specify seals and thresholds for the temperature difference rather than only for weather.
Shopfront and retail installations
Fit-out work at the V and A Waterfront, Canal Walk, Cavendish, Tyger Valley and the strip centres is done inside the centre’s permitted hours, usually at night, and to the centre’s own fit-out specification.
Residential installations
Homes from the Atlantic seaboard through the Southern Suburbs to Blouberg and the South Peninsula mostly want security shutters over patios, stacking doors, garages and side entrances. On the exposed elevations we specify the coating and the wind locks properly rather than fitting the same door we would in Durbanville.
Installation lead times in Cape Town
Standard doors run two to three weeks from approved measurements. Duplex and marine-grade coating adds a stage and therefore time, and heritage approvals add more. We give the real date rather than the hopeful one.
What installation costs
Manufacture, coating, delivery, installation and any structural work are quoted as separate lines. The survey is free and the quote is firm.
Common questions
About roller shutter door installation
A single standard door is usually a one-day fit. Multiple bays are phased so you never lose more than part of your dock or workshop capacity at once. The longer part is manufacture — roughly two to three weeks from accepted quote.
No. Our own teams install what we manufacture. It matters more than it sounds: when installation is subcontracted to whoever is nearest, nobody owns the result, and the warranty conversation a year later becomes an argument about whose fault it was.
A structurally sound opening and, for motorised doors, a power supply at the right side of it. The site survey checks both. If the opening needs steelwork or the power needs moving, that is itemised in the quote rather than discovered on installation day.
Yes, and it is included in most replacement quotes. Say so at survey stage so the team arrives with the right equipment, particularly on wide industrial openings.
