We make nine types of garage door and we fit and repair all of them across Cape Town, from our own Western Cape works. Every door is built to your measured opening rather than cut down from a stock size, because standard sizes stopped matching South African garages a long time ago.
Which type you need is decided mostly by the building, not by taste. Three measurements settle it: the opening width, the opening height, and the clear headroom between the top of the opening and the ceiling or the nearest beam. Send us those and we will tell you what actually fits before we talk about finishes.
The short version
- No headroom? Roll-up or side-hinged.
- Garage attached to the house, or converted? Insulated sectional.
- Near the sea? Aluminium.
- Wanting the door to look like part of the house? Wooden, or an aluminium woodgrain finish if nobody will recoat it.
- Just want a solid door at a fair price? Steel, in the right gauge.
Garage doors for sale in Cape Town
Every garage door we sell is made to your measured opening at our own works, then delivered and fitted by our crews. You can buy the door on its own or with a motor, and we quote both so you can compare. If you are replacing an old tip-up or wooden door, we check the frame and the headroom first so the new door is not fitted to a problem it will inherit.
In the coastal suburbs we specify aluminium or properly galvanised steel with marine-grade fittings, because salt air shortens the life of untreated steel and cheap hardware. Further inland, steel sectional and roll-up doors are the usual choice for value and security.
Double garage doors
A double garage door is one wide door across a two-car opening, usually around 4.8m to 5m wide. Sectional doors are the most common choice for doubles because the panels stay rigid across the full width and seal well against wind-driven rain. Roll-up doors work where there is little headroom, and aluminium keeps the weight down on very wide openings.
If your garage has two single openings with a pillar between them, two single doors, each with its own motor, is often simpler than removing the pillar. Send us the width, height and headroom and we will tell you which route makes sense before quoting.
Roll-up and roller garage doors
Roll-up garage doors coil into a compact drum above the opening, so they suit garages with a low ceiling, a beam, or storage overhead. See our roll-up garage doors page for sizes and motor options, or garage door repairs if your current door is the problem.
